Medline Europe has begun work on its newest warehouse facility in the vicinity of Madrid. The facility is expected to expand the medical devices manufacturer and distributor’s overall logistics capacity — significantly advancing operational efficiency and sustainability in its operations. The new 15,000-m2 warehouse is located just 30 kilometres (km) from Madrid. Its strategic location on the outskirts of the Spanish capital will help facilitate Medline’s mission to be proximal to its customers and healthcare partners, allowing for more effective service delivery. Additionally, it will expand the general operations of Medline International Iberia S.L.U, Medline Europe’s office in Spain.

To develop this new warehouse, Medline Europe partnered with Redur, a renowned transportation and logistics firm with an expansive network across Spain and Portugal. Redur provides logistics solutions aimed at improving customer service in the most demanding of sectors, such as healthcare delivery.

The facility is set to begin operations in Summer 2025.

Prioritising sustainability

In line with its vision to achieve more sustainable operations, Medline Europe has ensured that environmental, social and governance (ESG) has been streamlined into the design and future function of this state-of-the-art facility. Some key features will include:

  • Water-saving solutions, such as low-flow plumbing and a rainwater irrigation system to help maintain green spaces.
  • Energy-efficient air conditioning and sanitary hot water production powered by aerothermal energy.
  • A 160-kilowatt (kW) solar photovoltaic installation to support self-consumption and supply nearby logistics warehouses when needed.
  • Optimised natural lighting to help reduce lighting-related energy consumption all year round.

These initiatives highlight Medline Europe’s shared commitment to reducing negative environmental impact. Furthermore, the new facility is set to be awarded the prestigious Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology (BREEAM) certification — positioning it to be one of the first warehouses in Spain to earn this qualification.

Medline remains committed to ensuring we not only offer high-quality products and solutions, but that we also have the capacity to meet the logistical needs of those who depend on those deliverables, says Hervé Million, President, Medline EMEA.

Our partnership with Redur, therefore, represents a significant advance in our commitment to be closer to our customers while also reducing our environmental impact. All of us are excited for the new facility to come online.
